Goals galore in Goring thriller

-

GORING United were 4-2 winners over Woodley United Royals in a Thames Valley Premier League Division One basement battle.

The sides went into the break level at 1-1 after Joe Joslyn’s first-half goal, but Goring upped the ante in the second 45, Joslyn bagging a second a minute after the restart before a brace from Josh Monk wrapped up a second win of the season for thirdfrom-bottom Goring.

At the other end of the table, second-placed Tadley Calleva Reserves sat out this weekend’s action, but will be looking to make it seven unbeaten with a trip to Hambleden on Saturday.

In Division 2, the spoils were shared between Mortimer Development and Allied Community Elite following a 2-2 draw.

Goals from Daniel Horwood and Jack Bates secured a point for Mortimer, who had been on a run of four straight defeats.

There was a goal fest in Division Three as Goring United Res beat Farnham Royal Mavericks 6-4.

Goring were three up inside 13 minutes as Jamie Taylor, Alex Halsey and David Woodley all struck and it was 4-0 when Taylor added his second just after the half-hour mark.

Farnham fought back and scored three unanswered goals to set up a nervous final 15 minutes for visitors Goring.

However, the hosts proved unable to grab the equaliser and Halsey slotted his second before Taylor tapped in for his hat-trick in the 90th minute to put the seal on a thrilling win.

Elsewhere, a late strike from Alex Vallins rescued a point for Burghfield A in a 1-1 draw with AFC Corinthians in their Division 4 clash.

It was a much-needed draw for Burghfield, who have won just once and are second bottom in the table, two points above Reading City Lions.
