Happy to be an ‘oddball illustrator’

-

MARK Bijak is exhibiting in the Ace Space bar until January 30. Mark is an illustrator and logo designer, although he often tells people that he just “colours in” for a living.

As an artist Mark is drawn to making things that make him smile. Through his bold and playful illustrations, he hopes to remind others of the simple joys in life.

His work is influenced by both wry observations on modern life and nostalgia for an 80s childhood.

The focus of his work is often everyday inanimate objects and typically incorporates elements of typography and humour (often hidden).

Drawn by hand with brush pens on paper, he edits, re-colours and refines the images digitally. A self-professed ‘class clown’, Mark has a passion for art, design, and creativity, which he hopes to share with the world… or at least Newbury.

A Newbury native, Mark moved to London to study design at Goldsmiths College, during which time he dreamed of becoming a ‘serious’ typographic designer. A career as a graphic designer followed, along with the realisation he wasn’t built to be a serious designer at all, but instead much better suited to oddball illustrations. After several years of producing work for other people, he started his own company in order to draw more
