Trinity retains good rating
Ofsted commends school’s ambitions but says still room for improvement

NEWBURY'S Trinity School has been given a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating.
Executive headteacher Charlotte Wilson said: “I am very proud that the inspectors recognised the ambition we have for all students to achieve their very best and that our curriculum is broad and rich, enabling our students to thrive both personally and academically.”
Inspectors said that the staff’s experience and knowledge means students are well prepared for exams and their next steps.
They were also impressed with the confidence of the pupils and could see that students enjoy school and all it has to offer.
The inspection looked at how the school placed great importance on reading and noted that it was at the heart of the school.
The inspectors also recognised that student behaviour was overwhelmingly positive and that they were respectful to each other.
They were also impressed by the excellent personal development programme, which they said prepares students well for their next steps.
The school is part of Newbury Academy Trust, which means other people in the trust also have responsibility for running the school.
The inspectors said that the school, which has more then 1,200 pupils, has room for improvement.
“There is variation in how well the curriculum is implemented,” it noted.
“In a few areas, teaching is not effectively adapted to meet the needs of all pupils.
“Consequently, some pupils do not achieve as highly as they could.
“The school should continue to refine and embed teachers’ pedagogical approaches, so that all pupils are consistently supported and stretched to reach their full potential.”
The school, or academy, has kept its rating and has gradually climbed up from an inadequate rating given to it in 2007.
Trinity School, in Love Lane, slipped below the Government’s ‘floor target’ of 30 per cent of pupils achieving grades A* to C in at least five subjects, including mathematics and English, for GCSE exams in 2008.
In August 2008 Trinity was placed on the Government’s list of schools instructed to improve or risk closure.
It was given a ‘Good’ rating back in 2014.
