Romeo’s not impressed by Kingfishers’ lack of discipline
Thatcham hopes of a 10 top finish suffer a blow following three red cards in a week
THATCHAM Town’s hopes of a top 10 finish in the Isthmian League South Central suffered a double blow last week.
On Tuesday they lost 2-1 at fourthplaced Raynes Park Vale, then on Saturday they were well beaten at home by Hanworth Villa.
In both of those games Thatcham had a man sent off – meaning that three players have seen red in the past three games.
And manager Yashwa Romeo said: “It’s not good enough – they were fouls that did not need to be committed.
“Losing key players at this time leaves us short and it is not acceptable.
“We have six games left and those players are going to be out for half of them.”
When you add in injuries, Romeo’s squad has been whittled dangerously thin.
Fortunately, Thatcham can welcome back Jay Welch from injury, while Romeo has snapped up left-back
Callum Winchcombe from Basingstoke Town.
If Town were slightly unfortunate not to take anything from the Raynes Park game, they can have no grumbles about Saturday’s result.
Romeo said: “It wasn’t our worst performance of the season, but Hanworth dominated the game and were on top from the start.
“We didn’t deserve anything out of the game.”
Hanworth went ahead after 10 minutes and doubled their advantage nine minutes.
Thatcham were forced to defend desperately, but suffered another blow on the hour when Josh Blackwood was sent off.
Hanworth added a third in the 70th minute before Harry Hoath grabbed a consolation for the Kingfishers three minutes from time.
Thatcham will look to bounce back to winning ways when they face travel to an Ashford Town side that is still fighting relegation.
Then on Easter Monday Town host champions-elect Chertsey Town.
And Town will be looking for maximum points as they bid to finish in the top 10.
