Champion Malik is a winter wonder for TK
Club celebrates another successful season of cross country and indoor action
TEAM Kennet held its annual presentation of awards for outstanding achievement representing and working with the club during the winter season including cross country, indoor athletics and indoor sportshall, writes Emily Copeman.
This season Team Kennet had huge team success with cross country, with the under9, under-11 and under-13 girls all winning the Basingstoke Cross Country League.
The under-9 and Under-13 boys both finished second and the under-11 boys third.
Several athletes received TK stars for competing in all four matches.
In the league for individual performances, U9G Praiya Foreman finished first and Matilda Saunders second, while in the U9B Chester Bailey was second, William Moloney fifth and Idris Gaye sixth.
Ella Larkin won the U11G, Penelope Lyth was third and Matilda Clare fourth, while Malik Gaye was second in the boys with Samuel Atkins third.
In the U13G, Harriet Saunders was first, and Charlotte Bailey and Ethan Kuijten won the under-15 events.
In the Club Championships U9G Praiya and Matilda were
joint first with Matilda Hogg third.
Chester Bailey, Idris Gaye and William Moloney were the top three in the U9B.
The U11G had 16 girls competing this year with Ella Larkin finishing first, ahead of Penelope Lyth and Matilda Clare.
Samuel Atkins won the U11B ahead of Malik Gaye and Thomas Williams, while the top three in the U13G were Harriet Saunders, Anna Hall and Emerald Hill-Sawyer and Ella Cronk in joint third.
Harry Smith won the U13B, with Elliot Bell second and Oskar Larkin third.
In the U15G Charlotte Bailey and Lola Mitcham were the top two, with Ethan Kuijten pipping Max Adams in the boys event.
The senior athletes participated in the Oxfordshire Cross Country League, and the top three in the senior women were Katie Reynolds, Anna Riggall and Georgina McCabe.
Andy Colling won the senior men, ahead of Mitch Poustie and Phil Baker.
There were also two most improved athletes – in the male category JJ Mercer and in the female, Orlagh Stratford.
2023 saw Team Kennet return to Indoor Sportshall with several athletes taking part in the Berkshire Trials in November and December.
Congratulations to those athletes who were selected: Ella Larkin, Isla Ladds, Ella McDonald, Matilda Clare, Malik Gaye, Jenson Nichols, Samuel Atkins and Emerald Hill-Sawyer.
At the Sportshall South East Regional Final the U11G Berkshire team finished second, the U11B fourth and the U13G third.
For the Sportshall awards in the U11G the winner was Matilda Clare and runner-up Isla Ladds, while Malik Gaye won the boys title.
U13 winner was Emerald Hill-Sawyer and runner-up Ben Daley, while the Sportshall Queen was Penelope Lyth.
In the Berkshire Sportshall Championships, where Team Kennet U11Gs were crowned champions, Penelope was the best overall performer.

The final award of the evening was the Champions Champion and this season’s winner is Malik Gaye.
