EBP ‘honoured’ by John Hampson Award
IT was a very personal accolade for the Education Business Partnership when it picked up the first award of the night at the Newbury Weekly News Best in Business Awards, writes Sarah Bosley.
The organisation was presented with the John Hampson Award, which recognises those championing young people and giving them opportunities to succeed in their adult life.
Its chief executive officer said Mr Hampson had dedicated his time and unwavering support to them over the years.
Kate Barrow said: “Here at the Education Business Partnership, we were so delighted and honoured to win the John Hampson Award.
“It was particularly meaningful, given the unwavering support and time that John had dedicated to us over the years.
“I know quite a few of the team have very fond memories of working with John.
“We are a local charity and have been operating for over 30 years, to bring schools and businesses together.
“It means so much to us to be recognised for the work we do for the young people in our area, whether that is supporting them to develop their skills, knowledge and aspirations with our in-school careers events and workshops, or organising invaluable in person work experience placements to ensure that they are fully equipped for their best possible future.”
The award is in memory of the late and much-loved Mr Hampson, without whom the awards ceremony itself would not exist.
He was the commercial manager of the Newbury Weekly News for many years and also held a senior position with the night’s headline sponsor Apple
Print & Creative.
He organised the awards for many years and was a great advocate of giving young people the skills and opportunities to thrive.
The EBP does just that, providing essential work experience for school pupils, matching young people with local businesses and giving them valuable experience for what their future careers could be.
It works in partnership with around 1,500 businesses.
The charity said that it “couldn’t do what we do without the support of local businesses and volunteers” and urged anyone interested in getting involved with any of its work, to help shape the future workforce and raise awareness about their own sector, to get in touch by emailing kateb@ebp.org.uk or visiting its website at www.educationbusinesspartnership.co.uk
