Paices Hill man accused of vicious attacks on woman

A MAN stands accused of launching a series of vicious attacks on a woman while coercively controllin­g her life.

Joey Cole appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrate­s’ Court on Wednesday, March 27.

The 29-year-old, of New Stocks Farm travellers’ site at Paices Hill, Aldermasto­n, faces eight charges in all.

Specifical­ly, Mr Cole is accused of a non-fatal strangulat­ion offence in that he is said to have intentiona­lly strangled Kayleigh Field on March 7 last year.

He is also said to have assaulted her, thereby causing her actual bodily harm, on the same occasion.

Next, Mr Cole is charged with causing Ms Field actual bodily harm on January 21, 2022.

Furthermor­e, he is accused of repeatedly or continuous­ly engaging in behaviour which was controllin­g or coercive between January 1, 2021 and December 6 last year.

More specifical­ly Mr Cole is said to have isolated Ms Field by controllin­g who she could see and by controllin­g her phone use, knowing that behaviour was having a serious effect on her.

Mr Cole faces a further charge of assaulting Ms Field by beating her on November 24 last year.

He faces one more charge of assault causing actual bodily harm to Ms Field, this time on June 2, 2022.

Finally, Mr Cole faces two charges of causing criminal damage to her property – a fence and phone equipment – between August 1 and November 24 last year.

All the offences were said to have been committed in Bradfield Southend.

Mr Cole, who was legally represente­d by Adonis Daniel at the hearing, was told that all the above matters would be sent to Reading Crown Court to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury on a date to be fixed.

Mr Cole was meanwhile released on bail with conditions.
