Bloomin’ good celebration of year’s achievements

-

THE Bucklebury & Marlston Horticultural Society held their Annual Awards event at Englefield House on Saturday, March 23.

The evening was attended by PALS families, supporters, volunteers and mayor of Thatcham Mark Lillycrop, who nominated PALS as one of his charities for the year.

PALS is a local charity that embraces children and young people from five to 25, who have physical disabilities.

PALS award winners were Charlotte Webb, Adam West, Rufus West and Louise Rogers, while Barry Eldred won the volunteer award.

“It was a fantastic evening where the achievements of the year were celebrated,” said PALS chair and horticultural society show secretary, Jane West.

“It was an opportunity to thank everybody who has supported PALS.”

The evening included a dinner and raffle.

The horticultural society also hosted its Spring Show on Sunday, April 7, at The Victory Room in Bucklebury.

Despite the recent challenging weather, Bucklebury gardeners produced some fabulous blooms and filled the benches with an array of colour.

Judging the entries was former Bradfield resident and long-time society member Eric Salt, who commented on the high quality of the exhibits.

He awarded Eddie Smith the Best Exhibit in Show.

Other cup winners were Debby Reynolds, Sue Glover and John Smart.
