It’s Jessie at the double as Team Kennet get off to a flier

Young athletes see off the opposition to win opening league meeting in Horspath

TEAM Kennet made a flying start to their Oxford Young Athletes League campaign with a superb overall win at Horspath in Oxford.

Kennet finished with 39 points, two clear of Oxford City and well ahead of Banbury (35), Abingdon (30), Radley (29), Bicester (20), Witney (20) and White Horse (2).

The under-13 girls were second in their match, with the middle distance girls picking up wins in the 1500m through Harriet Saunders (5.36.5) and Jessie McCurtin (5.38.7).

Olivia Bentley won the 800m in 2.36.5 and Penelope Lyth took second in the B string in 2.51.4.

McCurtin secured a second win in the B string 200m 31.5, while 100m Olivia Bentley was third in the 100m A string in 14.8 and Penelope was third in the B string in 15.8.

Matilda Clare won her B string high jump with a leap of 1.15 and came second in the javelin with 15.07m, while Ella McDonald won the B string 13.91 and Affra Bailey placed third in the A shot with 4.32m.

The 4x100m relay quartet of Clare, Bentley, McCurtin and Lyth ran superb legs to come home in first place 60.3.

The under-13 boys matched the girls with a second place in

their age group.

A superb double came in the 1500m through Harry Smith (5.11.6) and Josh Bailey (5.58.5) in the 1500m.

More double wins came in the javelin through Euan Jones (28.79) and Jenson Nichols (18.94).

Berkay Altuntas won the discus with 27.10 and Alfie Cronk and Berkay made it another win in the Shot 7.29.

Nichols picked up a second in the B High Jump (1.10), while Sam Atkins cleared 1.20 for

third in the A High Jump. an excellent turnout and

Turkay went on to win Moores added a win in the the shot with a huge 12.40, B string 200m 30.5 with while in the javelin another McGonnell taking third in win came in the B string the A string 28.4, and second with Josh Ladds ( 20.05). in the 100m B with 13.8.

The under-17 women had The under-15 girls league was tough and Team Kennet had to settle for third place .

In the 300m a double win came from Emerald Hill Sawyer 47.0 and Chloe O’Riordan 49.4.

Hill Sawyer had to settle for second in the 800m with 2.39.3 but a good run from Ella Cronk 2.46.3 saw her win the B string.

Charlotte Bailey had to settle for second in the 1500m 5.19.3, but Anna Hall made sure she won the B string (5.44.7).

The relay quartet of Hall, Hill Sawyer, O’Riordan and Cronk ran a great race to come home in first place 59.8.

Two second places came in the high jump through Cronk 1.30 and Bailey 1.15.

Then came a double win in the javelin through Hall 16.84 and Zoe Dickson 16.13.

Dickson went on to win the A discus with 17.70 and place second in the shot 7.04.

Finally, the under-17 men placed fourth.

In the javelin a superb double win came from James Fenner 43.66 and Joe Hoaen 19.49.

Hoaen came second in the discus and shot, while Theo Nightingal­e was second in the high jump.
