Cir­cuit judges, one cap­tur­ing the mo­ment with his cell­phone, en­ter the an­nual Judges Ser­vice at West­min­ster Abbey on Oc­to­ber 1. The highly dec­o­rated event, which marks the start of a new le­gal year, dates back to the Mid­dle Ages; wigs have been worn in British courts since the 17th cen­tury. The ser­vice, at­tended by more than 700 judges, was led by Dean of West­min­ster John Hall.
