Res­i­dents of this jun­gle city watch as fire­fight­ers bat­tle a mas­sive blaze on De­cem­ber 17. Six hun­dred homes were con­sumed, forc­ing more than 2,000 peo­ple to flee. No deaths were re­ported. Au­thor­i­ties sus­pect a kitchen ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing a pres­sure cooker trig­gered the fire, which spread quickly through rows of wooden houses built on stilts to avoid sea­sonal floods.
