Cheryl’s Latest Love Crisis
Not all that long ago, Cheryl Tweedy was the Nation’s Sweetheart. When she first appeared as a judge on The X Factor following her then husband’s cheating scandal, everyone was smitten with the Geordie star. However, just a few years prior to her being universally adored, she didn’t exactly have the most glowing reputation, especially after being caught up in a violent episode involving a toilet attendant for which she was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. When you throw in her dramatically being hospitalised with malaria, having a whirlwind marriage that ended in a second divorce and then a secret pregnancy with a One Direction member she’d first met during X Factor auditions when he was just 14, it’s fair to say that Cheryl is no stranger to highs and lows and victories and scandals in equal measure. Now, it’s been reported that Cheryl has been dealing with a crossroads when it comes to her career as well as her love life. After teasing her fans on Instagram with shots of her in the recording studio it was announced a couple of months ago that she had ‘parted ways with her record company’. This comes after her last single, released leased back in 2014, failed to crack the top 100. However, insiders have said that she’s keen to still put some music out, if she can find the right record company to take her on. But, if the music business doesn’t work out for her, she still has a lucrative TV career to fall back on. Although there have been rumours for months that she would rejoin The X Factor panel, it looks instead like she will jump ship from ITV to the BBC. She filmed a pilot of a new dance show, that would see her mentor young talent alongside a Glee star and Strictly professional. But even though such a move would seem like a deliberate snub to Simon Cowell, it’s since been revealed that it’s actually his company, SYCO, that will be producing the show if it’s green lit. But, having been in the spotlight since she was propelled to fame in Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, over the last couple of years Cheryl has been remarkably quiet, not a single picture leaked from her filming the pilot and she stayed hidden for much of her pregnancy then spent the first few months after her son Bear was born, holed up in her mansion, seemingly more interested in the joys of new motherhood than the hollowness of fame. However, even with time out of the spotlight Cheryl unfortunately couldn’t avoid controversy for too long. Earlier this year what started out as just a few rumours of trouble in paradise between her and boyfriend Liam Payne, soon gained momentum and reports swirled that a split was all but guaranteed.
Of course we all know how Cheryl tackled that drama, she and Liam put on a very loved up, united front at The Brit Awards ( pictured left) in a move most saw as a bid to quiet the critics. Instead, the plan seemed to backfire and many viewed the appearance as cynical, insincere and nothing more than a publicity stunt. The suggestion that the pair were faking it for the cameras apparently angered Cheryl enough to spur her on to make a public statement, something she’s shied away from in the last few years. She took to social media to exclaim, “Oh Stop. No one cares who’s been speculatively arguing in their relationships. Your stunt theories are just ludicrous and a bit weird.” The problem that many people, fans and critics alike, found with Cheryl’s statement is that given that she’s dating a man 10 years her junior, who is often out of the country promoting his music, and has a one-yearold child and all of the stress that comes along with being a new parent; the worry, the lack of sleep, the sudden huge sense of responsibility... it wouldn’t be all that shocking to hear that yes, like many other couples, there had been an adjustment period and perhaps a few arguments and tiffs. It’s the pretending everything is perfect all the time that often leads celebrity couples into issues – because nothing is ever perfect all the time. But, perhaps given her previous love-life issues, that all played out very publicly, Cheryl just didn’t want to appear to have ‘failed’ again. Yet it seems that her other half, Liam, didn’t get the ‘everything’s perfect’ memo as a few weeks ago he gave an interview in which he admitted that there had indeed been issues between him and 34-year-old Cheryl. He said, “We have our struggles. I’m not going to sit here and say that everything is absolutely fine and dandy because you go through things and that’s what a relationship is.” He continued, “This part of our relationship was never not going to happen, there was always going to be a little tenseness in the way we sort ourselves out. But tell me a relationship in the world that doesn’t go through a spot like that? It’s about whether you make it through or not, together, is the main point there I guess.” Whilst he may only be 24, Liam’s comments show a certain level of maturity in that he’s not afraid to say that relationships take work. But it wasn’t long before more rumours began, this time after pictures were released of Liam looking ‘cosy’ with one of his attractive young backing dancers. Again, Cheryl jumped on social media to quash any suggestions of cheating saying, “This is a stupid article, clutching at very small straws. But I can’t ignore this story involving an innocent dancer colleague of Liam’s who has a fiancé, and dragging them into this desperate attempt to try to cause problems between Liam and I.” Soon after the statement, the pair are said to have jetted off on a ‘make or break’ holiday to the Maldives. The current status of their relationship remains unknown, but rumours persist that it’s not looking good for the pair, no matter how many denials Cheryl puts out.
