AMP UP YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE
Wave goodbye to dry skin
With your skin being exposed to harsh weather one minute and central heating the next, it’s no surprise that it feels dehydrated. In order to inject moisture back into your skin, look for ingredients in your serum and moisturiser that are humectants, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerine. One product that helps skin to retain water is this La Roche-posey serum, which aims to soothe redness and support the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Let your products work their magic
Although what we put on our skin is important, how we apply it could also be the key to a gorgeous complexion. According to skincare experts at Liz Earle, it’s important to massage moisturiser into the skin for around two minutes, rather than letting product soak in by itself. Massaging can boost blood flow which in turn transports fresh nutrients to skin cells and encourages detoxification. Start below the jaw, stroking down the neck and then move to above the jaw for a lifting effect. You’ll be amazed at the difference this can make if you do it on a daily basis.
Peel away the effects
An at-home face peel can help to take off any dead skin cell layers, stimulate collagen production and give your skin a glow. Here at No.1, we love e.l.f.’s Gentle Peel Exfoliant as it softly strips away any impurities but still helps to hydrate the skin. However, while they can work magic by refreshing skin, peels should only be used once a week due to the strong acids and enzymes many possess. If you peel your skin too much, it can become very sensitive, red, irritated and flaky.

Up your vitamin C
Waking up in the dark can be hard in the winter, but it is important that you are switched on enough to remember to look after and nurture your skin. Use an antioxidant moisturiser in the morning, such as The Body Shop’s moisturiser containing Vitamin C to give skin a boost. This a key component in protecting the skin from harsh weather, according to skincare expert Dr Pam Benito.
