Busy Easter for North Devon football clubs

- By RICHARD HUGHES

»»BIDEFORD, Barnstaple Town and Ilfracombe Town face a busy Easter weekend with games that could shape the outcomes of their seasons.

Southern League Division One South side Bideford drew 0-0 at home against Paulton Rovers on Saturday and were due to travel to Mousehole on Tuesday night for a rearranged game there.

Then, on Saturday, they are at Frome Town, before they take on Tavistock at the Sports Ground in a big Bank Holiday Monday Devon derby.

Before Tuesday night’s game, Bideford were sitting one point inside the Division One South play-off zone – fifth in the table.

In the Western League Premier Division, Barnstaple are also aiming for the play-offs but are currently just shy of the all-important top five.

Like Division One South in the Southern League, it is one automatic promotion spot and then one up from the play-offs in the Western Premier this season – so it is all to play for, for Ben Watson’s team over Easter.

Barnstaple beat Millbrook 4-0 in Cornwall on Saturday, with the goals shared between Matty Andrew, Harvey Dorothy, Brodie Montague and Billy Tucker.

On Tuesday, Barnstaple were at home against Welton Rovers, before going to Ilfracombe’s Marlborough Park for a big North Devon derby on Good Friday.

Then, on Easter Monday, Barnstaple host Helston Athletic for a Western League Les Phillips game.

Barnstaple are sixth in the Western Premier going into these games.

Ilfracombe are 13th in the same table, pretty much clear of the relegation zone. They lost 3-0 at Brixham on Saturday, and after hosting Barnstaple on Friday, they will go to Saltash United for their Easter Monday game.
