FOR the second year running, Conwy Council has been named Best Performer for parks, open spaces and horticultural services at the APSE Awards.

APSE ( Association for Public Service Excellence) announced the winners of the best and most improved performers in frontline services at a special awards event in Blackpool. The benchmarking exercise looks at all aspects of the service including the provision of playgrounds for all ages; number of community events held; environmental management within the service; customer consultation and satisfaction and staff training.

Andrew Wilkinson, Conwy’s head of neighbourhood services said: “Each year we review the information we’re submitting to see how we can improve and it’s brilliant that for the second time we have been recognised as the best.”

Conwy was also a finalist for best performer in cemetery and crematorium services, street cleaning and transport operations and vehicle maintenance.

Cllr Dave Cowans, cabinet member for the environment, said: “The APSE award shows that we’re committed to continuous improvement.

“I’d like to thank the all the teams who are out and about in all weathers for all their hard work.”
