Speed limit plea after yet another crash in blackspot
ACOUNCILLOR has appealed for more to be done for road safety near Penmaenhead after a crash which left a man in hospital.
Cllr Cheryl Carlisle said: “I’ve been campaigning for the speed limit to be reduced from 40mph to 30mph on this stretch if road.
“I’m disappointed Conwy Council has not done this and now we’ve had another accident in this blackspot.”
Last Wednesday a collision involving two cars put an elderly person into Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with non-life threatening injuries.
Cllr Carlisle explained: “When you’re coming round the bend from the quarry you’re still doing 40, despite the fact there’s two bus stops, four housing estates and traffic from Peulwys estate.
“There is an awful lot of traffic, the bus stops are used by children and elderly people yet the speed limit is still 40mph. I’ve asked and asked about this.”

Conwy spokeswoman said: “A review of speed limits on all A and B roads has been undertaken recently in Conwy.
“The

this review did not recommend any change to the 40mph speed limit on this section of Abergele Road.
“However, additional signage and road markings are being proposed in the vicinity of the former 70 Degrees Hotel to encourage drivers to take greater heed of the road layout in the area.”
Cllr Carlisle continued: “I’ve been told they’ve had consultants look at it and they think the current limit is okay so all that will happen is more chevrons.
“Residents use this stretch of road every day and they are concerned about the speed, Conwy Council should be listening to them.
“It’s a heavily used road, if there’s any incident on the A55 this is the main road.
“There have been five fatalities in the last 20 years. It’s time Conwy highways department listened to common sense.”
