Investment for the Valley BEBB

- BY GUTO Aberconwy MP

Dolgarrog Power Station

I was lucky to be invited to the official opening of the refurbished RWE power station in Dolgarrog on the 11th December, a £15million investment made by RWE which will secure forty jobs directly and many more within the local supply chain. Having previously visited the site and the complex of dams and pipes that feed the power station, it was fantastic to see the whole investment in place and working. With the adjoining investment in Surf Snowdonia it’s great to see Dolgarrog and the Conwy Valley enjoying some real long term investment that both protects and generates local employment.

Ysgol y Gogarth

Following the reopening of the Power Station in Dolgarrog I attended the official opening of Ysgol y Gogarth. The achievement of all involved with this school in providing a state of the art facility ahead of schedule and on budget is rightly a matter of pride for the staff, governors and the local authority. It’s an example of partnership working at its very best. In addition to the formalities of the opening ceremony, we were treated to a selection songs from the Chris mas Concert which the pupils had clearly enjoyed. A highlight for me was a reworking of the traditional Welsh folk song, ‘Ar Lan y Môr’. I can only congratulate everybody involved in this project on thei success and sincere thank the pupils for t warm and enthusiastic wel come.

Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy

Last Friday I attended a Q&A session with sixth form pupils at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy. It was a good session with some excellent questions and contributions by the young people. One interesting aspect was the fact that there was, amongst the students, a lack of agreement on whether the voting age should be lowered to sixteen. I was personally most impressed by the involveand maturity of the te amongst sixteen d seventeen year olds uring the Scottish Referendum Campaign which has undoubtedly made me think again on this issue. However, the students at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy were ot convinced. In my ew the fact that they e arguing about this than all demanding the vote is even further proof that they are ready to take part in our democratic process.

Finally, with this being my last column of the year can I once more thank you for the privilege of being your Member of Parliament and wish you all a Happy Christmas and the very best for the New Year.
