Man answered door to cops with hunting knives
A PC who with a colleague had delivered a letter to a flat had been “terrified” after an aggressive knifeman opened the door, a court heard last Friday.
The constable pressed his emergency button and fled downstairs, and armed officers were deployed, magistrates at Caernarfon were told by the prosecution.
Ian Jorgensen, 28, of South Parade, Pensarn, Abergele, was jailed for 18 weeks after he admitted threatening behaviour on January 15.
Court chairman Alastair Langdon said two PCs had been in fear when Jorgensen approached them with two “very large hunting knives.”
He added: ”This is a very serious offence.”
Prosecutor Diane Williams said a sergeant went to the defendant’s flat and Jorgensen put down the knives.
Defence solicitor Simon Sargent said Jorgensen suffered from depression and mental health issues. “To alleviate his symptoms he does use controlled substances,” Mr Sargent said.
“He has incurred a significant debt in relation to that and has received a number of threats from people associated with the drugs scene.”
The defendant had thought they came to harm him. “He heard banging at the door and heard male voices. Not being in the best frame of mind he panicked and overreacted,” Mr Sargent remarked.
Jorgensen was in a “very wound up, emotional state” and wouldn’t have acted in such a way if he had known police were banging on his door. The solicitor added that Jorgensen didn’t work.
