Duo’s brave head shave for cancer charity

-

HAIR today, gone tomorrow was the obvious pun as two friends were shorn of their pride and joy for charity at the weekend.

Plucky Tina Dixon and Annie Leon, both 33, and from Llandudno, braved photographers, a massed crowd of well wishers and the hairdressers’ clippers to raise more than £3,100 for Cancer Research at The Lilly on West Shore.

The total, which even included £490 from friend Sam Webster and her staff at the Body Shop on Jersey, is still changing.

“People are still donating and their kindness has been very moving,” said care worker Tina. “I’d really like to thank Phil Ashe at the Lilly for letting us hold the event there and The Hair Lounge and Pure Hair and Beauty for doing the shave.”

The girls, who have been friends since they were 14 years old, decided on the madcap charity fundraiser while they were out shopping.

“She [Annie] said next time we do something for charity can we sit down and talk about it first,” said Tina.

The day included collections and a raffle with local businesses submitting prizes including a full body massage from Mirrors and a signed print from JB Photography.

Now, with the cold biting and the realisation of their sacrifice setting in, both Tina and Annie, who works at Ysgol y Gogarth, have invested in wigs.

“Because of the nature of the work we both do, it may be a bit confusing for the people we work with, so we will wear them for work,” Tina continued. “I think I’m going to just be brave outside work though.”
