Pupils help raise cash for Uganda
RYDAL Penrhos Prep School pupils, parents and staff enjoyed some gift buying fun and raised a terrific £1,012 towards a school rebuilding project in Uganda.
A team of parents donned elf costumes for the day at the school’s ‘Secrets Room’ where the children were able to choose from a range of gifts to give to parents or grandparents which were then gift wrapped by the ‘elves’. All the presents were donated by generous parents and children paid £2 per gift. Money was also raised from the retiring collection at the school’s end of term Carol Service.
The funds raised will pay two thirds of the cost of rebuilding the foundations of a new primary school building in Rwamahano, Uganda, as part of Rydal Penrhos School’s developing links with that country.
Every two years senior pupils from Rydal Penrhos take part in an international community trip to help support the work of the African International Christian Ministry (AICM) and during the 2013 visit they made the decision to increase involvement with Rwamahano Primary School. Severe storms and flooding virtually destroyed the school’s buildings last winter and this convinced Rydal Penrhos to help fundraise for a replacement. Pupils visiting Uganda this year will have the opportunity to see the progress already made and hopefully help in the reconstruction.
The school is very grateful for the generosity and support of Prep school parents and especially those who were Santa’s Little Helpers for the day.
