Minister bakes cakes at Siwgr a Sbeis
A WELSH government minister got to grips with the finer points of cake decorating when she paid a visit to a bakery last Thursday.
Finance and government business minister Jane Hutt went to Siwgr a Sbeis in Llanrwst to hear first hand how the business has benefitted from the IrelandWales EU Programme 2007-14.
She found that with the help of business training from an EU-funded project, Siwgr a Sbeis launched a new “bake in the box” product range.
The bakery was launched by school friends Rhian Owen and Rhian Williams in February 1989.
The business began baking and selling a range of cakes from a shop in Llanrwst with a workforce of only three.
Today the business is located in a modern 2,400 square metre bakery in Llanrwst, and makes a wide range of award-winning cakes, desserts and savoury quiches for customers across Wales.
The new Ireland Wales Co-operation Programme 2014-2020, worth £80 million, has received ‘in principle’ agreement from the European Commission, with formal approval of the programme expected within the next few weeks.
