Formula One DREAM
Olivier scoops £35k prize with help from Lewis Hamilton’s dad
ALL ANDUDNO schoolboy has moved a step closer to his dream of becoming a Formula One driver - with some help from Lewis Hamilton’s dad.
Keen go-karter Olivier Algieri beat hundreds of rivals to win a place in the elite 2015 Formula Kart Stars cadet class.
The Ysgol Glanwydden pupil was born to be a racing driver, having come into the world in his dad’s BMW in 2005.
The nine-year-old won the prize – worth over £35,000 – after writing a letter explaining why he wanted to be a F1 driver.
His dad Naldo said: “He wrote about how he was born in a car and how his mother and I have always told him he was born to race.”
Olivier’s letter got him into the final 20 drivers invited to the Autosport International Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
The drivers were tested on the NEC’s indoor karting track.
Naldo said: “Olivier made the final five, which was fantastic. They were interviewed by a panel including former F1 driver Mark Blundell and Lewis Hamilton’s dad Anthony. Olivier won. They said they chose Olivier because of his ‘hunger’ for the sport.”
The prize includes free entry into the Formula Kart Stars series for this season, a brand new kart worth £4,000, new tyres and fuel.
