Selling milk at loss ‘not acceptable’
Farmers Union of Wales Breakfast Week
One of the highlights of my year is the opportunity to support local charities and eat a good Welsh breakf with members of th Farmers Union of Wales. This year the charities benefitting included Ty Gobaith and I suspect that if the turnout at Glyn Ucha, Ty’n y Groes and Dylasau Ucha Padog was typical of dozens of similar events across Wales than thousands of pounds will have been raised for what is undoubtedly a very good cause.
The events were also a great opportunity for me to catch up with farmers and to understand their concerns about issues such as the fall in milk prices, the mess made of the grant system by the Welsh ernment and the cision by that same Welsh Labour Government to reduce dramatically their support for Young Farmers Clubs. It’s fair to say that as an ndustry Welsh griculture feel creasingly divorced
the Cardiff centric Welsh Government. As for milk prices it is clearly not acceptable that farmers are now selling their produce at a
significant loss.
Salute our Schools
Whilst education standards across Wales continue to lag behind those in England we are incredibly lucky at the standard of education provision available here in Conwy. The revised Welsh Government league tables showed clearly that Conwy is doing well and better than Wales as a whole. I wish to congratulate all the schools who have performed well and thank the teachers, leadership teams and local education authority for a great effort.
Conwy and Denbigh merger
What can I say? This U-turn by the Welsh Government is a farce that has cost you, Conwy taxpayers, money. It is not acceptable.
