Thankyou for saving my life

-

no life left. Everything I had just wanted to drift away and go to sleep.

“I can only describe the experience as how you feel as a child; wanting to cuddle up and be warm and safe, but I didn’t want to give up.”

Luckily, a man on the pontoon was able to offer help to David and called for the RNLI.

When the lifeboat arrived, RNLI volunteer Alan was immediately placed into the water to help support David and keep him afloat in the river.

Volunteers Greg and Pete then helped the two into the lifeboat and rushed David back to shore to a waiting ambulance, which took him to hospital for further treatment.

David said: “They were just brilliant and kept talking to me and asking me about my grandkids to keep me conscious. I thought it was only right I went back to the station with a donation on Sunday morning. Apart from a few bruises, I’m alive and it really does put things into perspective.”

The volunteers were delighted to see David walk into the lifeboat station the day after the dramatic rescue.

Conwy RNLI volunteer Greg said: “It’s very rare that we hear anything from the casualty once they’ve left our care, so it was great to hear that not only has he made such a fast recovery, but he had taken the time to thank us for our help. It was a great team effort with all the volunteer crew pulling together to ensure Mr Stocks was returned to shore.”
