Protestors puzzled as rejected housing plan is submitted again
CAMPAIGNERS against a major housing development, already blocked by councillors on four occasions, say the latest application is virtually the same as before.
Gail Jones, who has coordinated the fight against plans to build 76 houses on land off Dolwen Road, Llysfaen, says developers Macbryde Homes’ latest planning bid is the same as the one rejected by councillors in November.
The proposed development has sparked widespread opposition from local residents who believe the local infrastructure will not cope with the influx of new residents.
Protestors successfully fought to prevent building work on at least four separate occasions, the last of which saw requirements to incorporate suitable open play space within the development not satisfied by Macbryde.
Gail Jones says new plans to go before the council next Wednesday show the same play area proposed, away from the development and bordered by forest, that was rejected in Macbryde’s last application.
She said: “Our argument is they were told that there had to be an on site open space. It’s just unbelievable, it’s already been rejected on all these points.
“We are urging the planning committee to vote the same way this time as last. They have to have an on site open space.
“In exceptional circumstances they can have it away from the development but not to save the developer’s profits. Exactly what is new?”
Bob Squire, Bay of Colwyn Town Councillor and Gail’s husband Andy Jones will both address the meeting at Bodlondeb next Wednesday to oppose the new proposal.
