Rydal star at hockey once again
RYDAL Penrhos Under-16 boys have been crowned regional hockey champions.
The team scored a great victory against Tywyn High School to claim the North Wales Eryri Championship title – a crown they also won at under-12 level.
In a very competitive match against strong opponents from Gwynedd, there was good, fluid play with a number of scoring chances for both sides.
As the game progressed, however the balance began to tip towards Rydal Penrhos who opened their account by converting a short corner into a goal.
A well-worked manoeuvre into the D provided Adam Sabri with the opportunity to reverse stick the ball behind the Tywyn goalkeeper to stretch the lead.
A further goal put the match out of reach of the opposition.
The final score was an excellent and very well-deserved 3-0 with Henry Davies and Sabri (2) provid- ing the net-finders.
This was a fantastic achievement by the whole team who, as the new Eryri champions, qualify for the National Championships early next term.
Hockey has a strong reputation in this area with the Colwyn Bay club’s young teams having recorded a number of successes in recent years.
The recent triumphs of the Rydal Penrhos sides at U16 and U12 can only enhance the development of the sport in the locality.
