£4k grant will allow patients a more dignified experience

-

ST David’s Hospice has received £4,000 to fund a new overhead hoist for one of the bedrooms on their inpatient ward.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

The grant will allow the patients to have an easier, safer and more dignified experience as they are lifted and transferred around the room. The overhead hoists are also designed with the carer and patient in mind.

St David’s Hospice is a registered charity providing free end of life care to adult patients from across North West Wales. The clinical running costs are £1.9 million a year and they rely heavily on the support of the communities they serve. Over 75% of our income is raised through community fundraising such as the Santander grant.

Kathy Fildes, Ward Sister at St David’s Hospice said: “We are delighted with the donation. It means so much to us. We can’t thank Santander enough. The ceiling hoists make such a difference to the patients and the nursing staff. It is really important to us to be able to provide dignity and privacy to our patients and to ensure they receive the highest possible standards of palliative care available. “

Cheryl Tittensor, Manager at Santander’s Llandudno branch said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK. Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting St David’s Hospice and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
