Rhian tops the women’s field

GOG Triathlon Club had an impressive turnout at last Saturday’s Abersoch Sprint Triathlon, claiming a host of prizes in the process.

The ever-impressive Rhian Roxburgh took the win in the women’s field, smashing the course record at the same time by clocking 1-18:42 for the 750m sea swim, 20km technical bike and 5km run.

Alexandra Aldous put in a huge performanc­e to take fourth spot, just missing out on the podium on this occasion but proving she has much to offer in future events.

Tomas Aldous and Non Harries both won their age groups (16-19), Aldous making a breakthrou­gh performanc­e with a top 10 finish overall with 1-18:06 in a competitiv­e field.

Other members competing included; Simon Roxburgh (13th) 1-20:53, Gavin Mart (20th) 1-23:02, Carlo Galeotti (55th) 1-32:12, Steven Lyall (75th) 1-35:27, Dinah Hazeldine (209th) 2-09:44.

Elsewhere GOG Triathlete Stu Goldsack took on Ironman 70.3 Staffordsh­ire, completing the gruelling 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km run in seven hours and 53 minutes.

GOG Youth athletes put a fine performanc­e in at the Blenheim Palace Elite Series last Sunday.

Sam Johnson grabbing 25th place in his age group and Sam Holt 33rd, both getting valuable experience at racing at the top level.

Overall, a highly encouragin­g set of results from members of this newly-formed club.
