ALMOST 70,000 people from across the world have applied for a stay at home job with a firm testing nail varnish.

Whoever lands the £35,000 a year role must avoid household chores to keep their hands in tip top condition to test the latest high street nail polishes.

Newly-launched Conwy firm Nail Box, who dispatch nail polishes and accessories including tiny, stick-on, sparkling stones and nail files to subscribers every month, advertised the position online a few weeks ago.

The company required applicants not to do housework, including gardening and washing, to test and review 50 nail varnishes and accessories each month before distribution to customers.

Nicholas Whitmore, 25, managing director for the firm, said the company had been overwhelmed by the global response (Africa, the USA and Greece) – including applications from men. He said: “

“We are absolutely gobsmacked. It’s not often we are lost for words, but we really are.

“The role has really captured the imagination of so many people. The biggest job now will be to sift through them all.”

Mr Whitmore said he was look- ing forward to hiring a new member of staff. He said: “It is a serious position – probably the most serious position in the company.

“Customers want the best products so we need somebody who will take it seriously and dedicate their time and effort to the job because it will be hard work.

“We want someone who takes good care of their appearance but in particular someone who looks after their hands would be ideal for the role.

“They need to have a good idea of what’s currently fashionable and potentially be a trendsetter within their own social groups.”

The closing date for applying for the positiong was June 30.
