Brown keeps up excellent form

NORTH Wales Road Runners Club member Gemma Brown picked up the award for second lady overall after another strong performanc­e in the final leg of the Tuesday Evening Fell Race series in Llanberis.

Also taking part in the ‘Beris event were Mark Davies, who finished in the top 10 overall in the series, Richard Scamans and Sean Gavin.

A few days later, Brown continued her fine form when finishing second lady overall in the Foel Fras fell race, which involved more than 3,700 feet of climbing in just over 12.5 miles.

Mark Davies also had a fine run, coming home second overall, and Leon Davies registered a creditable 19th despite taking a heavy fall.

Another off-road race featuring club members taking place over the last week was the inaugural Snowdon Twilight, which started in Llanberis and finished at the top of Snowdon.

Mark Davies (55.17) was once again first from the club to finish and he was joined in the race by Richard Scamans (1-08.14), Darren Griss (1-09.33), Kay Hatton (1-14.14), Stephen Price-Jones (1-14.33) and Jon Evans (1-16.42).

On the roads, five club members took part in the Runfest Wales series of races in Rhyl.

In the 5k event Dave Gardner was first in his category by over five minutes and his time of 23.44, whilst 40 seconds slower than he ran last month, was the third fastest by an over 75-year-old in the UK this year.

In the 10k Josie Davies (59.54) rated fourth in her category, whilst taking part in the half marathon were Steven Roberts (1-37.21), third in section, Jon Evans (1-40.25) and Darren Griss (1-55.42).

Also on Sunday Mike Thelwell took part in the challengin­g North Devon marathon, crossing the line 3rd in his category in four hours 21 minutes and five seconds.

In the latest Saturday Conwy Parkrun 5k, there were course personal bests by Iwan Evans (19.34), Konrad Roberts (20.29) and John Walker (29.56), who ran with his son Alfie. Also taking part were Garry Tann (22.40) and Angharad Lewis (29.08).
