MOCHDRE travel to bottom side Northop this Saturday having risen up to second spot in the Readers North Wales Cricket League Premier Division.

Gareth Goodson’s team were in awesome form at Bangor last weekend, winning by 167 runs to pocket a 15-0 points verdict.

Next up are Northop, but the Black Marsh Fields outfit know there is no room for complacency, as the Flintshire strugglers pushed leaders Menai Bridge mighty close in their latest outing.

Last Saturday’s success for Mochdre featured the debut of former Llandudno and Bangor opener Duncan Midgley – and he announced his arrival in style.

Midgley cracked 121 off just 103 balls and hit 15 fours and a six as the visitors amassed 301-6 off their 50 overs.

An opening stand of 95 between Midgley and Will Evans, who slammed 58 off 50 deliveries with nine fours and a six, got the travellers off to a flyer.

Gareth Davies added 40 and useful runs from James French (20 not out) and skipper Goodson (14 no) guided Mochdre over 300.

Goodson then removed the first four Bangor batsmen with just 22 runs on the board.

The home team’s tail wagged briefly, but the citizens were eventually skit- tled out for just 134.

Goodson led the charge with 4-27 off eight overs, Evans picking up 2-16 and Joe Chaplin 2-32.

Youngung Llandudno opener Danial Evans posted a maiden first-team century as the Seasiders overcame the challenge of Pontblyddyn at The Oval.

Tudno elected to bat first and Evans played the starring role with 104, striking 13 fours and three sixes, as the hosts set a useful 230-8 off 50 overs.

Sam Rimmington (37) and Kevin James (25) also produced vital knocks.

Pontblyddyn were soon in trouble in response, plummeting to 57-5 with opening bowlers Kim Roodt and Jack Rimmington doing the main damage.

The lower order did improve things for the visitors, but they could only reach 197 before the last batsman departed. South African Roodt led the way with 4-58, Rimmington nabbing 2-23.

Llandudno dominated the points 12-3 and next travel to lowly Bangor this Saturday.

Last weekend ended on a low note for Llandudno as they crashed out of the Welsh Cup at home to Division One side Llay Welfare.

The Wrexham area team registered a score of 186-6 off their 40 overs, young Matt Jones taking an impressive 4-34 for the hosts.

Fielding a mixture of first- and second-team players, Tudno were all out for 130 in reply, Sam Rimmington hitting 43 and Laurence Clair 30 for the Premier side.
