Locals help inline hockey team to
THREE local players are part of the Rhyl Renegades Inline Hockey Club which is now number one in Wales after winning the national championship.
Matt Batterbee, Cal Roberts and Simon Pilkington were in the team which triumphed in the one-day round-robin tournament at Market Drayton.
Rhyl Renegades beat Holyhead 4-1, South Wales Sharks 4-0, Wrexham 7-0, Swansea 6-1 and Llanishen 4-1, as well as drawing 3-3 with Deeside Predators.
The final was between two unbeaten sides, Renegades and Predators.
Having been held 3-3 by the Predators earlier in the competition, Renegades knew they had to raise their game and did just that, pulling off a superb 5-0 win.
Team member Batterbee, of Llandudno, said: “We pro- duced some incredible team work attacking and defending.
“We were complimented by the other teams on how we outclassed the opposition, the way we passed the puck around and picked our time well to get the goals and also keep them from scoring on us.
“It was a great feeling to win the Welsh Championships. As a club it’s not been the best of seasons with us struggling at times to play due to other things going on.
“So to come together at the end of the season like that as a full team and compete and win the championships was just amazing.”
