Gele land the crown

-

ABERGELE sealed the Spillane and Co Wealth Management T20 Evening Cricket League Division One title with a comfortable victory over Llandrillo.

Tight bowling restricted the college to just 75-6 off their 20 overs. The Gele Strikers then thrashed the required runs in just 10.2 overs.

The other game in Division One saw the winners of last week’s sixes tournament Mochdre amassing 151-1 against Rydal thanks to unbeaten half-centuries from Will Evans and Mike Humphreys.

In reply, a slow start saw the opposition fall behind the run rate and with wickets falling regularly, Rydal never mounted a serious challenge. Despite a useful 30 from Mike Sherrington, Dan Phillips (2-7) restricted the school side to 108-7.

A magnificent result for Conwy Celts blew the race for the Division Two championship wide open.

Hugh Kelly’s 3-17 limited leaders Robertsons to 99-9 with only Jawad Afzal (28) and Martin Watford (20) resisting.

Celts paced their chase perfectly with Sumit Chandran’s unbeaten 51 seeing them over the line in the last over.

In Division Two’s other game Lex set a formidable 141 runs with contributions from Tom Thornton (33), Jamie Grimshaw (32), Trevor Taylor (27) and Steve Cheung (24 not out) with Owen Rhodes taking three wickets for Pen-y-Bryn.

Jamie Wilkinson (40) and Chris Spillane (43) batted well for Pen, but the run rate proved too much and they finished 25 short.

Division Three will also go down to the wire as Jonathan Fisher’s unbeaten half-century handed Carmel Old Boys victory against North Wales Police with three balls to spare. Osian Tennant (2-8) did the damage for the Old Boys as the Police were restricted to 102-6, Luke Bennett 46.

Fisher’s knock of 51 proved the difference, though, as he and fellow opener Josh Norman (16) put on 48 for the first wicket.

A miserly four overs from by Police skipper Gary James (2-4) made it a tense finish but the Old Boys just squeaked over the line.
