Nant lead the table

-

NANT Conwy are the early leaders of Division One North following last Saturday’s narrow 10-9 win over Bala at Pant Carw.

The match started promisingly for Nant when the Bala pack were pushed upright and backwards on the 10-metre line in the first set scrum.

Delwyn Jones slotted over the resulting penalty.

Bala responded with really good quality back-line play, resulting in three Rhydian Jones penalties making it 9-3 at the break.

Nant’s golden period of the match came during the third quarter.

Robin Davies touched down after six minutes and the referee awarded a try, but the Nant linesman was honest enough to raise his flag to state that Davies had crossed the whitewash.

Bala had a throw-in from the resulting lineout that went astray and Nant pushed over for a try from the resulting scrum.

Hooker Eryl Jones was the scorer, Delwyn Jones converting from the extreme left-hand touchline.

There was further attacking play by the Nant forwards during the next five minutes but two touchdowns over the line were not counted by the official due to double movements.

The last eight minutes belonged to the visitors with plenty of good quality back play again, but Nant held on for the narrowest of wins.

Bala 2nds 6 Nant Conwy 2nds 13: This North Wales East League clash saw Nant Conwy triumph thanks to a penalty try, plus a conversion and two penalties from Euros Jones.
