Students’ achievements celebrated

-

THE achievements of 25 of Coleg Llandrillo’s outstanding Further Education students were celebrated recently at a glitzy ceremony in Venue Cymru, Llandudno. Guest of honour was Rupert Moon, former international rugby union player.

Each achiever received an engraved crystal trophy and a cheque for £100, thanks to the generous sponsorship of business people and organisations who injected over £2,000 into the prize pool.

Sponsors included North Wales Business Club, George Cameron, Wynne Construction, View Creative Agency, RWE Innogy, Welsh Mountain Zoo, Cymorth Llaw, SP Hospitality Consulting Services Ltd, Care Forum Wales – Looked-after Children Network, Barclays, Grwp Cynefin, Cartrefi Conwy, John Bellis, Capita and Bangor University.

The 25 winners were chosen from over 16,000 eligible students across the college’s campuses.

Welsh X-Factor winner, Suleiman Atta, who studied Music Technology at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, entertained the crowd during the interval with a spine-tingling show.

Students from several areas of the college were able to help out before and during the awards ceremony, gaining first-hand experience of the organisation and running of a major event.

Hospitality students organised the drinks reception for guests, as well as serving their very own nonalcoholic cocktail: apple and elderflower mint sparkle! They also served the food to all attendees.

Media students operated the industry-standard HD cameras, capturing the whole event on film, which will be available to view on the college’s website in the coming weeks.

There were also presentations to five of the college’s football, rugby and squash students who were awarded Welsh sporting caps after representing their country this year.
