Gogs shine in variety of tough tests

WITH the triathlon season coming to an end the last fortnight has seen more success for the GoG club.

The weekend of September 12 saw no less than 20 Gogs take part in the sprint and full distance events at the Anglesey Sandman triathlon.

On the Saturday in the men’s sprint, Phil Lynes again made the podium in third position and he also took part in the full distance the following day, finishing an overall second place over the two days.

The females sprint saw Jasmin Bowyer make the podium for a second week running, coming second with Alexandra Aldous finishing third.

Other Gogs taking part in the sprint and full distance races were: Sprint – Gavin Mart 11th, Sam Holt 20th, Gary Jones 37th, Steven Lyall 41st, Martin Crossley 44th , Gareth Jones 84th, Simon Adey-Davies 145th. Ladies: Sarah Gallagher 9th, Jenny Roberts 36th, Dinah Hazeldine 81st. Full – Phil Lynes 19th, Carlo Galeotti 97th, Andy Brazier 108th, Pete Borlace 112th, Chris Wynne 138th, Malcolm Harrison 202nd, Ashley Tomlinson 285th, Rob Greenland 302nd.

The same weekend saw two Gogs, Tom Prytherch and Jon Stead, complete the Ironman Wales in Tenby.

A massive achievemen­t by the pair saw them complete a 2.4-mile sea swim, a 112-mile hilly bike ride and a 26.2-mile run to finish.

Continuing the success of the club, Rhian Roxburgh won the Abersoch Half Marathon in 1:30:38 on September 19 and with it claimed the Abersoch Triple Crown, following a win in the Abersoch Sprint Triathlon and a second place in the Abersoch 10k earlier in the season.

Team-mate Adrian Leonard grabbed a top 10 finish with 1:25:48 (8th), whilst Simon Roxburgh finished 13th in 1:29:22 in the same race.

Special mention to two Gogs who completed in a race that lives up to its name last weekend.

Chris Bennett completed the Brutal Triathlon in Llanberis in 15 hours 47 minutes and 11 seconds.

Mark Dodgson tackled the Triple Brutal – a 7.2-mile swim, 348-mile bike with a 78-mile run which includes once up and down Snowdon. Mark, who is not new to long distance endurance events, finished in 61 hours and 18 minutes in fourth place overall – an exceptiona­l achievemen­t.
