LLANDUDNO will be targeting a third straight win in WRU Division One North when they travel to Caernarfon this Saturday (2,30pm).

The Seasiders were impressive 31-10 victors in their latest outing at home to COBRA last Saturday.

The Powys outfit had beaten Tudno home and away last season, so the North Wales coast side were keen to put the record straight.

However, it was the visitors that opened the scoring via an early penalty from Owain Morris.

From this point on the home side took control of proceedings, immediately responding with a well-worked try along the back division, with Ryan Pike touching down and also converting.

With the forward platform providing quick and clean ball that the backs were able to use to great effect, winger James Gregson crossed the whitewash for a try improved by Pike, which completed the first half scoring at 14-3 to the hosts.

A defensive error at the start of the second half, when the ball was was not collected by the defence, allowed COBRA back into the game when winger Llew Williams pounced for a touchdown, Morris adding the extras.

Llan now needed to up their game in order to secure the win they craved and this they did.

The home team were awarded a penalty just inside of the visiting 22, giving Pike an easy kick for three more points.

An incident between the forwards then saw a red card being issued to Llandudno’s Billy McQueeney, while a member of the opposition pack was shown a yellow.

Llan continued to press for more points and eventually the away defence began to tire.

Ed Weston, playing in one of his many positions at second row, was next on the scoresheet when from a line out the pack drove over the tryline for him to crash down.

Pike added the touchline conversion to put Tudno in control at 24-10.

COBRA now looked a tired and beaten side and gaps began to appear in their defence, but Llan were guilty of not allowing the ball to be passed when presented with try-scoring opportunities.

However, the hosts they finally secured the win plus a bonus point thanks to a try by full back Sam McKean and another posts-splitter by Pike.

Man of the Match award went to Llandudno hooker Nick Irlam, who in the set scrums took numerous balls against the head.

Llandudno - T: Pike, Gregson, Weston, McKean. P: Pike. C: Pike 4.

This Saturday’s opponents Caernarfon finished sixth in Division One North last season, with Tudno a place above in fifth.
