NEIGHBOURS HEARD LOUD BANG FOLLOWED BY SCREAMING AS TEENAGER IS LEFT BADLY INJURED

RESIDENTS described hearing screams and a loud bang after a 17-year-old boy was shot on a Radford street.

Police officers and paramedics descending on Radford Road late on Saturday made it feel “like something out of a movie” one of them said.

Another described hearing a loud bang and someone screaming “why did you do that?” - although they weren’t sure if it was the victim, his family or someone else.

A 17-year-old, who one resident said had been shot after leaving his grandmother’s house, was taken to hospital with wounds to his hands and chest that are not believed to be fatal but could change his life forever.

Local resident Katlynn Mason, 21, said: “I could walk out there any time and get shot. It’s scary - it’s getting stupid to be honest.

“My first thought was just panic. It was like a movie - they were taping it off and there were police with guns. We heard he went to visit his nana, came out and got shot.

“It’s a shock, I feel sorry for the family.

“If you’re shooting someone you should think about the parents. It got me a bit angry.”

Another local resident who did not wish to be named, said: “I was in the kitchen with my wife having tea when we heard this loud bang.

“Then there was someone screaming, just saying ‘why did you do that?.’ Obviously it is disturbing.

“I think whoever shot him drove off straight away - I heard a skid like someone taking off.”

His wife added: “I worry, considering we have a six-year-old daughter. Thank God he is not dead, it sounded serious.”

A spokesman for the police said: “Detectives are investigating following a shooting in Radford which left a 17-year old boy with injuries to his chest and hand.

“Nottinghamshire Police were called just after 10.50pm yesterday to the report of the incident at the junction of Ireton Street and Portland Road.

“The boy’s injuries are described as potentially life-altering but they are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

“Nottinghamshire Police has deployed a number of officers to carry out reassurance patrols in the area, while detectives continue their work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. No arrests have been made in connection with the investigation to date.

“Detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area, or who may have dashcam footage of the incident, to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 1137 of 29 June.”
