Flowers left for stabbing victim

-

FLOWERS have been left at the scene of a fatal stabbing in Bulwell.

A 38-year-old man was stabbed at around 3.25am on Friday and was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment.

He died later that day, prompting police to launch a murder inquiry.

A cordon was in place on Commercial Road, at its junction with Latham Road, for most of Friday.

An 18-year-old man, who was originally arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder .

On Saturday floral tributes had been left at the scene. A number of candles laid out in front of the flowers spelled the word ‘razor’. The victim has not yet been named by police. Imani Edwards, 28, who lives in Commercial Road, was one of the people who left flowers there.

She said: “This really worries me. You think ‘what if I had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and it happened to me’.

“It’s really upset me and made me think how short life can be. I did not know him but I left some flowers so he knows people are thinking of him. I was away last night so I did not see or hear anything.”

Neighbourhood Inspector Christine Busuttil, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Detectives from the East Midlands Major Crime Unit are now investigating the circumstances around the incident and are following up on several lines of enquiry.

“We understand that a party taking place nearby involved a group of teenagers, some of who may have seen what happened which would have been incredibly distressing for them.

“We want to hear from anyone who has any information so please call us on 101.

“We have also put additional patrols in the area so if you have any concerns or want to speak to us please approach our officers.”
