A 38-YEAR-OLD man is in a stable condition in hospital after he was stabbed in Nottingham city centre on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened outside the Old Dog and Partridge pub in Lower Parliament Street just after 4.10pm.

Stephanie Self, 24, of West Bridgford , said: “I was in Boots and lots of people were looking out the window.

“There were six police cars and a riot van. A member of the public was directing buses.”

Kylie Henson, 29, of Peel Street, said: “We have to live around here. Every time you come to town now there’s something. I don’t feel like coming out the house.”

Lorna Jenkins, 60, of St Ann’s, who has worked in the nearby Poundland for the past three years, said: “That pub is always lovely but I’ve never seen anything like this before.

“I was shocked - I did not expect all this when I came to go to work. You expect it in the suburbs but not the city centre. It’s really shocking.”

A police spokesman said: “Nottinghamshire Police were called just after 4.10pm to a report of a serious assault in the Lower Parliament Street area of Nottingham city centre.

“Officers responded within minutes to arrest a man in connection with the incident. A man has been taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 600 of June. 30”

A 72-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident.

Roy Lowe, of Rona Court, Bulwell, was yesterday charged with wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, affray and assault by beating.
