Sparkling in the eclipse
IF you’ve not yet made plans to see the upcoming lunar eclipse on July 27, you may want to grab your bike and a bottle of prosecco.
Nottingham Girls Cycle Club will be hosting its annual prosecco ride through Colwick Country Park on eclipse night this year, meaning there will be a great opportunity to watch the phenomenon from the park right under the stars.
The ladies-only bike ride will involve those taking part looping the park lake at least once before bringing out the rugs, chairs, snacks – and of course, the prosecco – to watch the eclipse that will see the moon turn an eerie red colour from between around 8.51pm and 11.19pm.
The moon will be its deepest red at around 9.21pm, while the bike ride and post-cycle picnic will take place between 8pm and 11pm. Anyone hoping to attend is also encouraged to take their own lights and torches to enjoy the display as things will be pretty dark inside the park.
The annual prosecco ride is now in its third year following a cycle around Attenborough Nature Reserve in August 2017.
But if an alcohol-fuelled bike ride isn’t for you when it comes to watching the upcoming eclipse later this month, Colwick Country Park will also be the site of a family friendly outdoor screening of Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi blockbuster E.T. The Extra Terrestrial at 9pm on July 27.
