Defiant last-wicket pair leave Cavaliers frustrated

LEADERS Cavaliers & Carrington were frustrated by bottom side Mansfield Hosiery Mills in round 12 of the Owzat-cricket Nottingham­shire Premier League. A 97-run 2nd wicket stand between Bilal Shafayat (47) and Zain Abbas (78) helped the home side make 261 for nine,

Kunal Manek took three for 44 amid the carnage. Abbas started the run chase taking three for 24 as the Millers were reduced to 74 for five. Kamal Manak (47) was joined by Patrick Delahunty (40) in a stand of 76 before both fell quickly and the game looked up at 169 for nine. Daniel Harris and Kyle Garside had other ideas, remaining unbeaten to hold on for a draw as MHM completed their 50 overs on 211 for nine.

Kimberley Institute took a nibble out of the Cavs lead with a highscorin­g win over Hucknall. The visitors’ Joshue Downie (87) and Jake Libby (80) put on 134 for the opening wicket in a final total of 286 for nine. Christophe­r Glover led the bowling with four for 58, backed up by George Bacon with three for 66. The home side’s Dominic Brown, who scored 89 at better than a run-a-ball and Alex King 67 from 33 balls to seal a five-wicket win with five balls to spare.

Cuckney were also able to make a little inroad to the Cavs lead as they cruised to a five wicket win at home to Radcliffe-on-trent. The visitors posted 198 for eight from their 50 and Cuckney made light work of the chase. Tom Keast made 82 as Cuckney made their target with almost 10 overs to spare.

Plumtree now lie in fourth after being held to a draw at Papplewick & Linby. The visitors’ Saad Ashraf made 102 from 128 balls as the innings closed on 280 for six. The hosts were in trouble at 106 for five but Matthew Carter (47) helped them hold out for the draw on 234 for nine.

Wollaton played host to Farnsfield and made 224 for eight.

The visitors reply never got going and it was left to the final pair to hold out for the draw, closing on 182 for nine.

Attenborou­gh lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a thrilling last-ball win at home to Caythorpe. The away side posted 199 for nine built on a patient 66 from Hishaam Khan and Ben Bhabra claimed three for 29.

Wickets started to fall as the hosts looked to push for the win and they needed five from the final over.

Louis Kimber had left the field in the first innings with broken two fingers but he tied the score with a boundary, before somehow avoiding being run out off the last ball as he scampered the winning run.
