A NOTTINGHAM boxer has said she feels lucky to be alive after a chunk of metal flew into her car windscreen on the A46.

Nina Bradley, 30, who is one of the best female boxers in the country, said the metal object could have sliced through her windscreen and into her head or neck.

On Tuesday, she was travelling towards Nottingham from Newark for a strength session at Liberty Gym in St Ann’s when the freak accident happened. She said: “I was driving along in the fast lane and there was a lorry on my left, all of a sudden I saw the car in front brake and something flew over it.

“I just saw this metal object coming towards me and I couldn’t swerve out of its way.

“I remember it so vividly, I couldn’t do anything so I just straightened my arms and braced for impact.

“It hit my bonnet first and then my windscreen and the glass smashed and covered me.

“I had it in my eyes and in my mouth and all over me.

“When it hit my windscreen, I also swerved into the lorry too, it could have been a disaster.”

Miss Bradley, who has worked as a carer in the community for five years, said the moment it struck her BMW was like a scene from a movie.

She added: “It was almost in slow motion but then at the same time it was coming at me too fast to make a decision on what to do.

“I feel so thankful and lucky to be alive, if it hadn’t hit my bonnet first it could have sliced straight through the windscreen and into my head or neck - it could have been a completely different story.”

Miss Bradley, who has a 10-yearold son called Fynley, said she believed the metal object was part of a maintenance vehicle which had fallen off and been left on the road.

She added: “I am so glad Fynley wasn’t in the car, it would have scared him so much, someone must have been shining down on me that day.

“Please if you see debris in road call the police and get it removed, it could have cost me my life.”

The carer and professional boxer was worried an injury could knockout her chances of competing in the Commonwealth super-welterweight title on Saturday, September 15 at Leicester City FC’S King Power Stadium.

However, she managed to walk away from the scene with a couple of bruises and has got straight back in the gym.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed they had attended the scene on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman said: “We were called at around 5pm on Tuesday to reports that an object had hit the windscreen of a car on the A46.

“We attended and it looked like the object was on the road before the collision took place.

“An ambulance was called as a precaution to check her over.”
