Man held in guns and drugs inquiry
DETECTIVE PRAISES MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC FOR PROVIDING INFORMATION
POLICE have seized five handguns and 10 cannabis plants from a house in Bramcote after reports of suspicious activity.
Two men were seen filling a van on a driveway on Chesham Drive at around 11.45am on Wednesday.
Police found the van had about 10 cannabis plants in the back.
After officers searched the property they also found cannabis growing equipment inside.
While searching the garage five handguns and the components of two other handguns were also seized.
A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of intent to supply a Class B drug and being in possession of a firearm without a valid certificate.
The suspect remains in police custody.
Detective Constable Fiona Mcvey said: “We wouldn’t have recovered the cannabis or the firearms without the information from the member of the public.
“Information from the local community is vital to our work and can help us enormously in making progress in our investigations.
“As the eyes and ears of the local community, residents often have key information which can help us identify offenders and ensure they are brought to justice.
“I would like to thank the member of the public and reassure the local community that we have a man in custody and we are continuing with our inquiries.
‘‘The firearms and ammunition we recovered will be forensically examined as part of our ongoing investigation.”
