Do we live like a member of the G7 group?

- Tony Morris Manor Green Walk Carlton

THE Buttle Charity has been donating thousands of beds to children in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, who have not got a bed to sleep on.

This is something that most of wouldn’t consider to be a problem now, but according to the charity, 400,000 people in this country still don’t have a bed for their child to sleep on.

As reported in this newspaper, there are problems with food banks being unable to meet the current demand for their services, as children who depended on free school dinners to get at least one decent meal a day, don’t have the access to this essential meal when on summer holidays.

We have councils claiming it’s the Government’s fault but is it a case of not prioritising the needs of its residents.

I think councils need to stop socalled feasibility studies, such as the one for another extension to the current tram network, as Brexit veers towards having no deal, which would mean funds for such work would be sparse for a period while the country started to generate trade deals with countries outside of the EU.

How many beds and hot meals could the £200,000 provide, rather than finding another tram route.

We are supposed to be a member of the G7 group of nations, but looking at how our children don’t have a bed to sleep on and are depending on overstretched food banks to survive, we must prioritise our spending to cover these issues which one would not associate with being a member of the G7.

We are beginning to look like a third world country, as our most vulnerable become unable to survive. I suspect most readers would agree with that statement, when one sees the state of our roads?

The council constantly promotes the need for a cleaner environment, which is all well and good, but that doesn’t mean much when you have been sleeping on the floor and wonder where your next meal is likely to come from.
