Boss warns of Cambridge backlash

-

KEVIN Nolan admits Cambridge United will be no easy pickings for his Notts County side especially after the Us’ opening day defeat to Port Vale.

Joe Dunne’s side were beaten 3-0 by the Valiants who started the season in impressive fashion under boss Neil Aspin.

Nolan feels Cambridge put up a good fight despite the scoreline and says they will be intent on making amends for that by claiming the scalp of the Magpies at the weekend.

The Abbey Stadium has not been a happy hunting ground for Notts in recent seasons either having lost on their last three visits, shipping in eight goals in the process.

Magpies boss Nolan feels Cambridge’s impressive home record means they will have to treat their opposition with the utmost respect.

“The fact they were beaten certainly hinders us rather than helps us because they will be looking to turn that around,” he said.

“No two League Two games are the same and they will be wanting to put that defeat right.

“They are very strong at home and lost only five games last season.

“That’s been their biggest catalyst for staying and remaining where they are.

“We can’t go there and underestimate them. They are a good side and had good chances at the weekend. It wasn’t just a 3-0 thrashing for Port Vale, it was a hard-fought 3-0 win.
