Stabbing was targeted attack, say police after five arrested
A FIFTH man has been arrested by police investigating a stabbing in Stapleford in the early hours of Saturday.
The 22-year-old was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody. Four other men, arrested on Saturday, have been released on bail
Neighbours woke up on Saturday morning to a heavy police presence after the attack.
A cordon covered a large section of Pasture Road and Hickings Lane while forensic officers investigated the stabbing, which has left a man in a serious condition. He was taken to hospital with wounds to his leg. Police said the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Residents reacted with shock to the news. Susan Millership, 50, of Trowell, said: “A few years ago, a friend moved to the area and I’d heard of stabbings then but I’d not heard of anything recently. This is awful. It makes you scared to be walking about in the open.”
Antony Reeves, 36, of Stapleford, said: “I am quite shocked actually to find out that someone has been stabbed here.
“I came back this morning to find that a large part of the road was all cordoned off and I didn’t know what had happened.”
22-YEAR-OLD HELD ON SUSPICION OF GBH
Norman Phillips, 84, of Stapleford, said the stabbing was “too close to home” but added: “I’m not really that shocked about this with everything that’s going on lately.”
Diane Geary, 62, of Stapleford, said: “I’m not really that shocked at all but there you go.
“It seems to happen everywhere now, doesn’t it?”
And Malcolm Geary, 73, of Stapleford, added: “It’s just an inconvenience really. I’m not shocked, it’s just the way of life.”
As well as the arrests, police seized two cars. A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Officers were called to Crawford Avenue at around 1am.
“A man was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre after he was stabbed in the leg. His injuries are thought to be serious.
“Officers believe this to be a targeted assault and would like to thank the local community in the Hicking Lane and Pasture Road area for their understanding and support.
