Bungalows bid for village
COUNCILLOR SAYS NEW PLANS ARE IDEAL FOR AGEING POPULATION
THE village of Calverton could be getting more homes – with plans to convert a former car park into 21 bungalows.
And a decision on plans for a 430home development is expected next month.
An application by Persimmon Homes to build on fields on the edge of the village was submitted to Gedling Borough Council on June 15.
Now a new bid to convert the car park in North Green has been revealed.
The site previously served Calverton Colliery and one and two-bedroom bungalows could be built there.
Conservative councillor for Calverton Boyd Eilliott backs plan. He said: “Bungalows in Calverton would certainly be suitable housing for the village.
“We are aiming to free up the larger houses for families to move into, which this development would help towards.
“We have a shortage of bungalows in Calverton and quite an elderly population. The development would create its own community and would be ideal for maybe single older people, of which the village has a lot.
“It would therefore free up the larger houses in the village for families who want to stay in the village and move here.
“The fact the development would not affect any of the greenbelt land is also a good thing.
“The other development by Persimmon Homes in Calverton is not building any bungalows, so this is different. I back the application for bungalows there.”
Details submitted by Phoenix Planning Ltd said: “Although not exclusively restricted to occupation by the elderly, the proposal will meet the housing needs of the ageing population within Gedling, in accordance with Policy G5 of the Neighbourhood Plan which requires one and two-bedroom homes and bungalows.
“Each unit will include one main living space incorporating a lounge and kitchen area, a bathroom and either one or two bedrooms.
“Each property will be provided with a reasonable enclosed garden area that are manageable and easy to maintain.”
Plans were submitted to Gedling Borough Council by Lovely Homes Limited in August and are awaiting a decision.
