Shot fired in St Ann’s: 26-year-old charged
A MAN has been charged over a shooting in St Ann’s.
Quamai Nugent, of Warton Avenue, Nottingham, is charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear.
The 26-year-old was due before city magistrates today. A 25-year old man was also arrested but released on bail pending further Inquiries.
Police were called at 8pm on Friday after a disturbance in The Wells Road.
It was reported that a firearm had been discharged and a police search of the area was launched. No injuries were reported.
Angela Nugent, 55, of Mansfield Road, said: “My sister lives on this road and I used to. I remember when Danielle Beccan was shot and killed years ago, my son Carlos held her in his arms when she was coming back from the Goose Fair years ago.
“It started to get better in the city but now there seems to be much more happening. It’s really terrifying. It’s coming back quite a bit.”
Ahmet Cinar, 28, owner of the Premiere shop in The Wells Road, said: “I’ve heard there was armed police from customers, and I saw a helicopter myself.
“I moved from Tottenham in London five years ago and bought this shop. It’s not as bad as there, where there’s a helicopter every other night, but St Ann’s isn’t a great area; it doesn’t feel very safe around here.”
A police spokesman said: “Gun crime is not welcome in Nottinghamshire and we continue to do everything we can to prevent, disrupt and arrest those responsible for committing offences of this nature here.”
