A MUM has described the “scary” incident that took place next door to her house after a 24-year-old woman was injured in a shooting.

The shooting happened in the early hours of the morning in Heatherington Gardens, Top Valley, at around 2am on Sunday. Police were called to reports of a shot being fired.

The force has said the shooting was believed to be a targeted attack, but the 24-year-old woman injured is not believed to have been the intended target.

It is not known how many shots were fired at the property, but a window has been boarded up.

A neighbour on the street, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was woken up to the sound of “fireworks” and that the incident was shocking on a normally quiet street.

She said: “At first I thought it was just someone having a party, it sounded like fireworks. It’s a quiet street and area.

“I have lived here for one-and-a-half years and have never seen or heard any incidents.

“It’s mainly older people who live up here.

“The family next door rang me to say I hope you’re OK and to check everything was alright with the baby.

“They told me they couldn’t go into any detail as they were working with police. They are a lovely family and I wouldn’t expect incidents like this.” No arrests have been made. Jaye Philips, a mum-of-two, walks her kids through the street to school and said the incident was “worrying”.

“It’s not nice to hear. I walk my kids through here to school. It’s worrying and you never know where something might happen.”

Neighbourhood Inspector Christine Busuttil, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We have a team of officers working around the clock on this case and they are following up a number of leads.

“While we do believe this was a targeted attack, we do not believe the woman was the intended target.

“The 24-year-old suffered minor injuries as a result of the firearms discharge for which she has received treatment.

“We have extra patrols in place in the area and we ask anyone with any information, to either stop one of our officers on the street or call us on 101.

“You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
